I am pleased to inform you that the new chapter of Getting Over Edie is in the final stages of completion. Never mind that it’s taken me the ENTIRE summer to actually sit down and focus one this particular story. I was stuck for a long time, trying to consider the plot direction. It would be so simple to stick to a generic plot line but “generic” and “formulaic” have never been words to describe what I do.
This particular installment involves Grady and his reflections. Up until this point he’s been trying to numb himself with bad habits. But he soon learns that no matter how much alcohol he imbibes or how many plates of Italian food he scarfs down, his issues will always be there if he does not tackle them head on. Expect a really in-depth flashback that gives a peek into his relationship with Edie.
Speaking of the She-Devil, there isn’t much description of Edie so far. But I think this new chapter will give the reader a nice picture of her personality. There’s a ton of character interaction that I’m quite proud of, including a really interesting scene between Grady and Arden. Arden is a piece of work. I’ve never written a more layered character that even I would have a hard time liking. She’s rude, a little abrasive, but we see another side of her early on in this chapter.
I’m really excited for Numero 3. This chapter was a beast to write, mostly because I was so stuck on the direction of the story. I didn’t want it to be a male version of “Always and Never”. After writing such a dark, sad tale I wanted to play around with lighter elements. While Getting Over Edie is essentially about the rough patch of break-up recovery, there’s also blended humor which I find endearing. I hope to have the editing and re-writing completed by Monday at the latest and submitted to Lit on the same day. This story will be out by next week if it kills me!
I’ve decided to make tumblr. my new home. While I will still update my old blog from time to time, I think the simplicity of this site will make it easier to communicate with everyone that’s interested in learning more about me and my works.
Getting Over Edie has been slowly but surely progressing. I admit I had a ton of ideas and I lot of stuff just isn’t workable. But after months of serious brainstorming (aka sitting on my butt) I think I’ve worked out the plot. This new chapter (which should be finished by the end of this week) will definitely give some insight into Grady and Edie’s relationship as well as show a gentler side of Arden. I know a lot of readers don’t particularly care for her but give her a chance. Yes, she is abrasive and a little obnoxious but she means well.
Just in case you need to catch up on the what’s what with Getting Over Edie, here’s the first two chapters :
